Saint-Joseph AOC, Northern Rhône, Domaine Coursodon Silice Blanc 2025
Country: France
Region: Saint Joseph
Alcohol Percentage: 13.5
Serving Temperature: 8-10
Jérôme Coursodon, with his father Pierre alongside, produces a stunning range of wines from the historic village of Mauves in the original sector of Saint-Joseph. When the Saint-Joseph appellation was established in 1956, dramatically steep slopes directly across the Rhône river from Hermitage, sharing the granite soil that makes up the terroir of the western “Les Bessards” section of that famous hill.
The Coursodon family has true roots farming the granite in and around Mauves back to the mid 1800’s and Jerome’s grandfather Gustav was one of the leaders of Domaine bottling and organising the St. Joseph appellation in the 1950’s.
30+ year old vines
Grape Variety: 100% Marsanne
Testing Notes: The wine is a very elegant Marsanne. Silice captures the mineral essence of Saint-Joseph's distinctive terroir, delivering a white wine of considerable aromatic depth and textural refinement. It reveals the layered complexity of Saint-Joseph's granite and schist soils. The wine balances pronounced minerality with white stone fruits, creating a compelling interplay between structure and elegance that speaks directly to the vineyard's character. It is a very fresh and creamy wine.
Pairings: For seafood lovers, this fresh and mineral wine will be perfect. Silice can also be tasted on its own as an appetizer drink. The sommelier of the restaurant Pic in Valence (Drôme), Michelin guide 3 star, proposes to accompany this wine with “a foie gras of duck , whole roast to the poêlon, accompanied by sugar beet ravioles, yellow and bearing juice with soft spices”.
