Domaine Arnaud Baillot: When a Business Talent Meets a Renowned Legacy, Writing a New Chapter in Burgundy

In Burgundy, a land dominated by legendary names, it takes more than passion for a young estate to rise. Domaine Arnaud Baillot, founded in 2017, is one of the most exciting new lights in recent years. Some say it is the perfect blend of timing, terroir, and family — the result of the sister and brother-in-law of the famed Hudelot-Noëllat estate joining forces to craft a modern classic.

Arnaud Baillot did not come from a traditional winemaking background. He studied international trade and wine business, then ran several wine distribution companies in Burgundy. Through years of building relationships, he not only met his wife Laure, who comes from a winemaking family, but also received hands‑on guidance from her brother Charles van Canneyt — hailed by Allen Meadows as a Burgundy superstar. Step by step, Arnaud steered the domaine toward excellence.

A Striking Blend of Grand Cru Pedigree and Organic Philosophy

The domaine’s vineyards span village and premier cru plots in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, covering 7.5 hectares of certified organic estate vines. Arnaud personally oversees every step — from grape sourcing and vinification to barrel selection. He chooses oak from François Frères (the cooper for DRC) and Chassin, a renowned Burgundy artisan cooper, to maximize the expression of terroir.

The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Suchots” is aged in 50% new oak. Aromas of ripe black cherry blend with enticing notes of cinnamon, allspice, vanilla and other spices. Fine‑grained tannins give a solid structure. The Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru shows perfectly ripe blackberry and blueberry, layered with licorice, clove, and elegant violet, finishing with delicate rose and mineral notes.

A Precise Expression of Modern Burgundy Style

Steen Öhman, the renowned critic behind Winehog, tasted the wines and made a special trip from Copenhagen to visit the domaine. He defined the style as “modern Burgundy style”. It does not blindly follow natural wine trends; instead, it uses a judicious amount of sulfur to enhance completeness. Wine Enthusiast’s scores have been rising year by year, signaling that Domaine Arnaud Baillot is heading toward the next Burgundy wave.

The village wines are equally impressive. Beaune 1er Cru “Montrevenots” is aged 15 months in oak, offering a core of strawberry, cherry, and raspberry fruit, lively acidity, and a long finish. Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Grandes Vignes” delivers cherry and blackberry notes, balanced structure, and hints of spice. Gevrey-Chambertin has been rated 92 points by critics, showing the perfect balance of classic Côte de Nuits character.

A Rising Star Worth Collecting

From business executive to winemaker, Arnaud has infused every bottle with the precision he learned in commerce. In less than five years, the domaine has won international acclaim. With organic viticulture, an outstanding family heritage, and deep respect for terroir, Domaine Arnaud Baillot is quietly and confidently writing its own story.

If you are looking for a new‑wave Burgundy with both elegant depth and collectible potential, open a bottle of Domaine Arnaud Baillot and take your time to savor it.
